Person of interest sought in March homicide

Homicide detectives have released new photos of a person of interest in the March 5 murder of a man in Castor Gardens.

The slaying occurred on the 1400 block of Magee Ave. Patrol officers were called to the scene at 11:17 p.m. in response to a report of a person with a weapon. They found Alberto Hernandez, 25, lying on the sidewalk unresponsive and suffering from a gunshot wound of the right cheek. Hernandez, of the 2600 block of N. Second St., was pronounced dead at Aria Health-Torresdale the following night at 7:09 p.m.

Police did not release the identity of the man in the photos, but detectives want to speak with him. He was observed on SEPTA’s Route 66 bus on March 6 and overheard discussing the murder. He exited the bus at Frankford and Cottman avenues.

There is a $20,000 reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the killer. Call 215–686–3334 to report information or call 911 in an emergency. ••
